Character Writing Prompt - Create this Character #1

I've come to realize that I write a lot of stuff that just vanishes into the aether of the interwebs, and that some of it might be worth keeping around, even if it's just to provide inspiration for someone else.

On December 7, 2021, a user on a D&D Facebook Page write the following:

"Make a Character out of these prompts:

  • Jack of all trades, master of some.
  • High Intelligence, Low Constitution.
  • Wizard + Artificer"

I responded with the following:

Kelly Wilkinson was born in Michigan and contracted a rare disease as a baby which made breathing difficult. As a result, she spent a lot of time indoors (either at home, or at the local public library) reading.
While she would eagerly devour anything she could get her hands on, she developed a particular interest in fantasy fiction and science and would often fill her family's kitchen table with bits and pieces as she put together electronics projects or science experiments. The scientific method became her mantra as she would test, test and test again (Part of this was borne out of the fact that she was being subjected to so many tests herself!).

One day, while travelling interstate with her dad (MORE tests!), they became separated. She left a message for him on his phone and ducked into a secondhand bookshop to seek shelter from an oncoming rainstorm. She told the owner what had happened, and the owner said she was free to stay as long as she needed.
Confident that her father would soon come for her, she browsed the shelves, found a book that seemed interesting and began reading.
When she woke up hours later, night had fallen and the bookstore had closed. Panicking, she swiftly became lost in the maze of shelves and found herself standing in front of a fire exit.
he burst through the door and found herself... somewhere else, and what's worse, when she turned around, she saw only a blank, stone wall.
Being resourceful and clever, she found work mixing ingredients for a local apothecary (having read a bunch of medical books didn't hurt).
he soon realized that many of the scientific laws she knew worked differently here and that if she was going to get home, she'd need to gather more information of what DID work here, and just HOW it worked. Time to test and test and test again...

Kelly Wilkinson, Science Adventurer
